Top 5 Reasons To Not Have A Maternity Session | Traditional Baton Rouge Maternity Newborn Photographer

traditional baton rouge maternity newborn photographer mariko searing photographySo you’ve read the title of this blog post and you’re thinking “Huh!??! Why would a photographer not want someone to have a session?”. As a Traditional Baton Rouge Maternity Newborn Photographer, I’ve heard a lot of moms to be say they don’t want maternity photos done. There are a few reasons that seem to be common among new mamas. Some of these reason are why I didn’t get maternity photos done for my own pregnancies. A decision I now regret. So I wanted to take a look at those reasons and tell you why I think a maternity session is so important.

1. I don’t like how I look.

This is a reason I see often among women in general, pregnant or not. They don’t want to get in the photos because they dread seeing how they’ll look when the photos come back. But what will you do years from now when there are tons of photos of your beautiful family minus you? When there’s no photographic evidence that you were there too?

Get in the photos. Document this beautiful time in your life. You are an important part of your family and should be in the photos too.

2. I don’t think I’ll feel up to having photos taken

I recommend having maternity photos taken towards the end of your 2nd trimester or the very beginning of your 3rd trimester. This time is usually the time when you feel your best. The 1st trimester symptoms are usually gone and you aren’t at that uncomfortable stage just yet. I’ve heard this time in your pregnancy referred to as the honeymoon stage of pregnancy. And what better time to capture this precious time than to have a maternity session?

3. I want to focus on baby

It’s common for moms to put our children before ourselves, even before they make it to the outside world. We’re moms and it’s what we do. In doing that, moms tend to forget that we too deserve to be celebrated for who we are and what we do.

Each baby deserves to be celebrated, but so does each mom. Take the time to treat yourself and capture that pregnancy glow to look back on after your little one arrives. You deserve it!

4. I didn’t have a session for my older child or children

I know we as moms want to make sure each child doesn’t feel like the other got something they didn’t. But remember that regret I mentioned at the beginning of this blog post? I’d feel at least a little less regret if I had at least had maternity photos taken for one of my pregnancies. This is also the perfect time to get them in on the session. They can show their excitement of becoming a big brother or sister.

5. I don’t know what to wear

This is an easy one. Hello my name is Mariko and I’m a professional photographer : ). Part of being a professional is I know what looks good and how to make you look your best. Now some of that is posing, but wardrobe is important too. For all my maternity clients I offer a studio gown closet as part of their session. So what if you don’t want to use one of my gowns? That’s perfectly fine. I want you to love your photos. Even of you chose to wear your own clothes or buy something special to wear, I’m more than happy to offer my expertise to help you pick something that will look amazing in your photos.

So if you haven’t caught on by now, I want you to have a maternity session to documents this special time in your life. Not because I want you to come to me for your session (not that I don’t want to be the one to document your pregnancy because I totally would), but because I want you to be able to look back without the regret of not having getting maternity photos done.
